WHAT IS LIVER CANCER?
Liver cancer is a cancer that occurs in the liver.
Also known as hepatic cancer, it can be classified as primary or secondary:
- Primary liver cancer begins in the cells of the liver
- Secondary liver cancer begins in another organ but the cancer cells spread to the liver
Primary liver cancer is the 6th most common cancer in the world, with more than 800,000 new cases diagnosed each year. The most common type of primary liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
