Where did you go to school? What did you study?
I went to Babson College, a business school, where I concentrated in Finance and Global Business Management.
What led you to Boston Scientific?
I knew I was interested in a global company since I love travelling abroad and working with people from different backgrounds and cultures. Additionally, I wanted to feel like I was adding value while helping to improve the quality of someone’s life. After attending a career fair at Babson College, I realized that the Finance Rotational Program at Boston Scientific aligned with my career goals and aspirations perfectly.
What are some of your current responsibilities in your current role?
I am on my second rotation in Global Operations Finance. My main responsibilities are around month end close. I manage a group of Corporate Operations cost centers and I am responsible for booking journal entries, auditing cost centers for erroneous entries, planning and re-forecasting, performing variance analysis, and explaining monthly results to cost center managers via reports and brief commentaries. Additionally, I consolidate monthly capital and headcount actuals, restructuring savings and worldwide finance spend from our manufacturing sites. Lastly, I am the Value Improvement Project (VIP) financial analyst which entails validating cost savings for VIP projects in Operations. As well as the Capital Review Committee (CRC) analyst, auditing capital expense projects of over $1 million that go to the CRC.
What are some key things that you have learned in your time at Boston Scientific?
I have learned the importance of communication, time management, and prioritization. Also, I have learned to always strive to expand your network, to communicate with as much people as possible, and build those connections. I have also learned to be proactive, to question everything (and to not be afraid of asking questions!) and try to improve processes wherever possible. At BSC, I have had the opportunity of meeting great people, at a professional and personal level, people that care about me as an individual and not only as an employee.
What are your career goals for the future?
In the future, I want to assume a leadership role within the Finance organization and manage people. Additionally, I want to get a master’s degree with a concentration in Finance or Financial Strategy.
What is your favorite thing about working at Boston Scientific?
The people. Everyone at BSC cares about you and is willing to help you. Luckily for me, I’ve had the opportunity of working with managers that strongly believe in work-life balance and career development, so I’ve always had time outside of work for myself.
What advice would you give to someone interested in joining the rotational program?
Be proactive and involved in your work, ask as many questions as possible and don’t be afraid of going outside your comfort zone. Always challenge yourself and connect with as many people as possible.
