EMBOLD™ Detachable Coil System case study

GI bleed embolized with EMBOLD™ Fibered Coils

In this case study, we show the management of a gastrointestinal (GI) bleed utilizing Embold Fibered Coils. The patient presented with symptoms, and a positive nuclear medicine scan indicated a bleed within the transverse colon. Employing a TruSelect™ Microcatheter, the medical team navigated the tortuous 2 mm distal branch, originating from the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) feeding the site of the bleed. Through the placement of two 2x4 Embold Fibered Coils, hemostasis was achieved, ultimately sparing the patient from an open surgical procedure.

The outcome was not only successful in stopping the bleed but also resulted in a short hospital stay.

Presentation

Patient presented with symptoms and a positive nuclear medicine scan of the transverse colon showed a GI bleed.

Intervention

A TruSelect Microcatheter was used to navigate the distal, 2 mm tortuous distal branch coming off the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) feeding the transverse colon, which was embolized with two 2x4 Embold Fibered Coils causing hemostasis.

Outcome

The patient avoided an open surgical procedure for the life-threatening bleeding and had a short hospital stay.
