Global community engagement

Overview

At Boston Scientific, healthier communities will always be a top priority. In 2022, we donated more than $67 million to global research, fellowships, education, and charities. In the U.S., the Boston Scientific Foundation awarded over $2 million in scholarships and grants. Our employees initiated programs in 50 countries to advance STEM education and community well-being.

Community Involvement

Our employees believe in giving back to the communities where they live and work. In 2022 alone, they volunteered more than 31,000 hours. They also piloted an innovative pro bono program that helps local nonprofits expand their networks and develop new partnerships. And through the Boston Scientific employee matching gifts program, they generated nearly $2 million for deserving organizations.

STEM Education

STEM education is a proven way to bring more diversity to the next generation of medical innovators. In 2022, our 17 employee-led STEM teams engaged more than 70,000 students through a combination of hands-on activities, competitions, and mentoring. Thanks to a new community engagement program that awards grants based on employee proposals, our Sao Paulo, Brazil team was able to offer a day of STEM challenges at a local school.

Health

The World Health Organization projects a shortfall of 10 million health workers by 2030, mostly in vulnerable communities. To address the shortage, we expanded our Signature Health Grant Program in 2022 to include U.S.-based initiatives. Designed to increase the number of trained health care workers and improve the quality and availability of chronic disease screenings, more than $500,000 in grants were provided through this program to Project HOPE, the American Cancer Society, Partners in Health, the American Heart Association, and Global Access to Cancer Care Foundation.
