How TheraSphere™ is Made
TheraSphere is a Y-90 radiation therapy solution from Boston Scientific that delivers high-dose radiation directly to liver tumors. It uses unique glass microspheres embedded with radioactive Yttrium-90. Because the Yttrium is embedded within the glass matrix and not surface-bound, each microsphere is highly concentrated with radioactivity, making TheraSphere the most powerful radiation therapy on the market. TheraSphere is personalized for each patient and can often be administered in a single outpatient session. With its unique mechanism of action, TheraSphere safely delivers a high absorbed dose directly to tumors, maximizing tumor response while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. TheraSphere's high absorbed dose is correlated with improved tumor response and longer overall patient survival.
