Key Resources
While stones can be removed with standard ERCP techniques, approximately 10-15% are considered difficult and cannot be treated effectively.1 EHL is one option to remove these difficult stones. The American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy finds EHL not only to be effective, “but relatively inexpensive” compared to other modalities, such as laser lithotripsy.5

Case Studies
A 54-year-old patient was referred for three large bile duct stones, all larger than 1.2cm. Previous extraction attempts and ERCP procedures had failed. Using the SpyGlass DS System, Dr. Sharma performed an ERCP procedure using cholangioscopy and EHL and fragmented all three stones in one session.
A 72-year-old-female presented with post-laparoscopic cholecystectomy and underwent 2 failed ERCPs to remove a large biliary stone. A 10fr stent was placed and she returned 2 months later for an ERCP using cholangioscopy with EHL lithotripsy.
A 46-year-old patient presented with cholangitis and despite the use of conventional therapies, the stones were unable to be extracted successfully and a plastic stent was placed. The patient returned 2 months later for an outpatient ERCP with laser lithotripsy using the SpyGlass DS System.
